Life Options Institute

Life Options Institute is a result of a journey that Steve and Joan Carter began several years ago. They figured out early that thinking about WHAT you're going to do in retirement is just as important as financial planning.

Joan and Steve found lots of people willing to help them with their finances. But there weren't any resources to help them plan for the WHAT. So they started a company - Life Options Institute - and developed this Web site and a series of mental exercises to create the baby boomer's highway to a rewarding and fulfilling second half of life.

What is the hardest thing to deal with in life after retirement?

Health and the cost of not having health insurance are the biggest worries for retirees. Health changes are unpredictable and have physical, emotional and financial consequences.

The loss of social connections at work is the least anticipated loss in retirement. Only 13 percent of pre-retirees surveyed think it would be the hardest thing to deal with in retirement, but almost double that number of retirees identify it as their greatest challenge. Most boomers underestimate the importance of the social network they have developed through work. Clearly, developing new social connections is important.
